Sufra is a product family that includes cutlery with better grips, a plate with curved ending for easy fill, and no-spill glass for people with hand tremors. It aims to provide an inclusive and functional dining experience using handcrafted, premium-quality materials.
People with Parkinson’s, Essential Tremor, and Multiple Sclerosis often feel guilt and embarrassment about their dependency on others and this leads to loss of self-confidence, depression, and social withdrawal. They often avoid using assistive products due to their plastic and colorful appearance which makes them feel even more discriminated and stigmatized.
Throughout the process, I tested prototypes with various people to ensure that the design was as appropriate and effective as possible. Getting feedback from them and trying to apply those into the design was crucial for me. My goal was to create a hand-crafted inclusive cutlery set that is both functional through their form and also age-appropriate by material and looks that improve their eating experience.
